Haveeru Daily, on an article published on February 25,2008, regarding molesting subordinate female officers and exercising powers unlawfully by an Inspector of police, Mr. Ibrahim Manik, has mentioned the names of those victimized by the defendant. The clarity with which the acts of molestation by the Defendant has been well described, with the victims names as subjects. It is perhaps a good report by an ingorant reporter. But, these kind of things, if unattended by the Editors, will lead to more victimization of victims. So, the question is how responsible are our journalists and Editors of leading daily news magazines ?
In a country where there are no good laws for defamation and personal damages caused, these things could happen. And... if these could happen then the victims are to be compensated by the Newspaper Publishers. Is Haveeru willing to pay for the Victims?
Responsible news reporting is not seen in this country and there is nothing the relevant Ministry or Government Office is doing. I hope the government will act accordingly so as to curb these kind of malicious acts.
Perhaps the Reporter Adam Haleem himself should have thought about these, as his ex-wife is also a police officer, and the dirt their relationship has is worse than this!
