Special Majlis of the Parliament to complete the Constitution by end of November

For the second time, after debating for a whole day, yesterday, the Special Majlis agreed to have a collective effort on completing the Constitution by end of November. The way they talk on this issue, it implies that this is a very important task. But, sadly, things change as soon as small committees are tasked with the tasks.

The members would always raise issues on "nizamee nukuthaa" and this has become a joke with the public. People, in their day-to-day work is also raising "Nizaamee Nukuthaa". During the last session of the Majlis, "Nizaamee Nukuthaa" was raised by two members on two different instances just to convey thier views, which is strictly against the operating framework of the Parliament. When the members can't adhere the rules they have formulated, how can they expect to have a cohesive relationship within.

Another funny "slang" the Majlis has provided our country is "Izzaththeri" (Respected / Honourable). Now, there exist no real meaning in that word, that once used to be used on a very high note.

Many of the Majlis memebers find problems with existing government setup and sometimes they even leave the Sessions, which results in discontinuation of the Sessions for member presence less than the set quorum. However, none desires to resign and in fact nobody has ever resigned. The reason is that they attend the sessions for the fame and money and not for doing anything for the betterment of the people.

Now, it appears that a mere 25 hours of work of the darfting committee is left. This might appear achievable. The big question is that can they meet for two hours, everyday? No! Most of them will not. Because most of them are more busy with running their bussiness farms. They can't waste a single coin for this country!

Is Hussain Salaah a national hero?

I have read almost all the articles regarding the death of Hussain Salaah, published on all the print media, and listened all the interviews and clippings that appeared on the and programmes that appeared on TV. After reading so many things about a person I felt that I should post an article on this blog on my findings.

Since the death of Hussain Salah of Naazukeege, S.Hithadhoo, he has been on the news. Sometimes, the way, media quotes these news, it implies that he is national hero. The fact is: he is not.

Let me tell you some facts. Hussain Salah was know drug-addict. I believe none has to prove this, as people at his home island (S.Hithadhoo) knows of this.

He was arrested on April 8, 2007, in the evening, about 10:00 PM for possession of narcotic drugs. He showed no cooperation with the police during the investigation.

No matter how good the laws are, Maldives doesn't have the required human resource for dealing and implementing these laws in all islands. One such Law is the extension of arrest after 7 days. I believe it was because of his non-cooperation and the afore mentioned law had resulted in police deciding that he be transfered to Male'. He was brought to Male' on April 12, 2007. He was released because police has enough evidence that can prove the case beyond reasonable doubt, in the court of law, even if he has denied his involvement with the drugs case.

The Man (Hussain Salah) had no relatives who wants to meet or take care of him, owing to his ill behaviour, during his later days. Police contacted his mother on the telephone (she was in S.Hithadhoo) to inform her of his release from police custody on April 13. He was released after giving him back his belongings, and obtaining his signature and thumb imprint.

Is he still that worth a person for the parliament to waste so many days on debating about this case?
